Pho Saigon Republic offers a straightforward Vietnamese dining experience right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Located on N Spring St, this spot specializes in pho and other classic Vietnamese dishes, attracting both pho enthusiasts and those looking to explore beyond the usual options.

Inside, the atmosphere is casual and no-frills, typical of many pho places where the focus is on the food rather than decor. Service can be efficient but varies — some guests have noticed a low-key attitude from staff during busy times, which matches the unpretentious vibe. The space works well for solo diners grabbing a quick lunch, friends sharing bowls, or small groups eager to sample a variety of dishes.

The menu emphasizes traditional offerings like their pho with filet mignon, oxtail, and a special beef combination, alongside fresh spring rolls (Goi Cuon), egg rolls, and vermicelli bowls with options of pork, chicken, or shrimp. The broth stands out for its balanced flavor, rich yet clean, complementing the quality meats without overwhelming them. Unique touches like the Ube Vietnamese Coffee and Thai Tea are available for those wanting something different from the usual Vietnamese coffee style.

Portion sizes tend to be generous, which is appreciated especially if you come with a group or want to order a few appetizers alongside your pho. The oxtail pho and short ribs are often recommended for those who enjoy a bit of variety in their bowl, while charbroiled pork and egg rolls delivered with vermicelli make for a satisfying alternative to noodle soups.

Parking nearby is somewhat limited, reflecting the dense urban setting, so timing your visit outside peak lunch hours can lead to a more relaxed experience. The restaurant sees a mix of office workers nearby, local residents, and pho lovers who appreciate solid, authentic Vietnamese fare without pretension.

Best for: Anyone craving traditional Vietnamese noodle soup with options to customize their bowl or explore classic appetizers in a casual downtown setting. Great for quick lunches or low-key dinners where the food speaks louder than the ambiance.

Who will enjoy it most: Pho aficionados, office lunch crowds, and groups who don’t mind functional service and a straightforward dining room in exchange for hearty, tasty dishes.

Best time to visit: Early lunch or mid-afternoon to avoid the busiest rush and parking struggles.

Beef rib pho for $15. It came with additional bowl with a chunk of rib and it was fulfilling. I've been there twice and one time the waiter was doing the minimum job with the low key attitude.

I found this spot nearby and it was an excellent find. I ordered a bowl of their pho but forgot which one, but it was excellent. The broth was delicious and the meat quality matched it. Overall it was an excellent lunch. The pork chops were delicious and awesome. I’d definitely come back to this spot again in the future. Parking is limited but worth the trip.

The pho and bun cha are so good. The portions are great, the ingredients are fresh, and service is fast and not necessarily the nicest, but I think they mean the best. I like how you can build your own pho and you can choose which meats you want. The egg rolls were really good and I highly recommend getting the oxtail if you like oxtail — it won’t disappoint!

Around 12 of us came to this place on a Sunday afternoon. I am not a big fan of Phở but I enjoy vietnamese rice-based dishes, so I went with that. I had the one with chicken, pork, shrimp and Chinese sausage. Also some egg rolls and spring rolls. The attention was ok (I could tell they were a bit understaffed, so no biggie), but the portions were big and the food was tasty. The place was also super clean. Highly-recommended place.

This is a little hidden gem on the outskirts of Chinatown near the overhead metro line. We've been visiting this place on and off whenever we visit Chinatown. Food is fresh and very tasty, the atmosphere is very casual which I love, I'm not a foodie so I don't care very much for the fancy look of a restaurant, the food is important to me. If you're looking for a place with tasty food, healthy portions and something that'll stick to your ribs, this is a good start.

This is my new favorite pho spot in Chinatown (and top 5 in LA). The restaurant is no frills but the service is quick. The pho broth is super rock and delicious. We would definitely recommend the oxtail pho, which is served up in two different bowls - one for the noodles, and another for the oxtails. Great portions of meat and noodles! They also have fresh noodles here, which are soft and bouncy and adds a lot of texture to the meal.
